Description
Border management in Colombia is a challenging topic due to the nature of its borders and the cross-border criminal activities being carried out. Due to weak controls, smuggling of persons, drugs and weapons, and trafficking in human beings are a key concern for the authorities.

The Administrative Department of Security of Colombia and its Sub-Directorate for Migration Affairs (SDMA) requested MIEUX’ support in border management. The SDMA faces significant difficulties in the management of borders and especially in capacity-development for its staff.

A training curriculum on document security and trafficking in human beings and smuggling of persons was developed, as well as a training of the trainers’ session. Selected staff members also participated in a study-visit in Spain and exchanged challenges and best practices with their Spanish counterparts.
