Duration: May 2023 - December 2023
Medellín is the second most populous city in Colombia and stands out as the financial, industrial, commercial and service centre of the country.
The city has recently witnessed a growing number of incoming migration flows. This backdrop poses different challenges to the public administration in providing efficient reception, integration and support services to migrants.
Medellín has taken steps to improve migrants’ integration within its territory, through the development of “the Municipal Development Plan Medellín Futuro 2020-2023”, a public policy for the management of territorial migration. However, the Secretariat of Social Inclusion, Family and Human Rights at the Mayor's Office of Medellín, realised the need to further strengthen the social cohesion aspect in its public policies.
Against this background, the Secretariat at the Mayor’s Office asked for MIEUX+ support in developing an intercultural approach to be included in its Strategic Plan.
The MIEUX+ team and partners will draft recommendations on mainstreaming the intercultural approach in the Strategic Plan of the Migration Management Policy, design a training curriculum on interculturality and organise a workshop on the same topic.
Finally, a replica training session on interculturality will be organised to strengthen the capacities of the different actors, such as civil society organisations, public and private sectors, and academia, with a focus on sustainability.
