Description
Togolese emigrants are estimated at between 1.5 and 2 million. They mostly live in neighbouring countries (Benin, Burkina Faso and Ghana), as well as other West African and European countries. There’s an important number of returned Togolese migrants back in the country and recent political instability in host countries such as in Côte d'Ivoire and Libya, has pushed thousands of migrants to return to Togo.
To reinforce the operational capacity of the government of Togo in handling return, readmission and reintegration if its citizens, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and African Integration requested MIEUX’s technical support.
The capacity building activities aimed at enhancing the understanding and knowledge of the relevant Togolese public authorities on return, readmission and reintegration of migrants. The MIEUX experts also provided support in the drafting process of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) whose aim was to improve the ability and capacity of the Togolese public authorities to implement readmission commitments in a timely manner and to deliver reintegration assistance. Lastly, the project also provided an opportunity to facilitate cooperation and coordination within Togo as well as with EU MS.
