Description
In recent years, Mexico has seen an increase in asylum applications due to the high number of people fleeing violence, insecurity and poverty, in particular from Central America. The principal government body responsible for refugee issues, including refugee status determination, is the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (COMAR for its Spanish acronym) under the Secretariat of the Interior.
Together with the National Institute of Migration (INM for its Spanish acronym), they requested MIEUX's support to strengthen inter-institutional coordination and cooperation as well as exchange between migration and case officers, and their European peers.
The varied capacity building activities from this Action increased inter-sectoral dialogue and coordination. Additionnally, the training provided enabled the COMAR to standard its interviews' methods and to develop a practical guide about it.
