Uganda is a landlocked country located in the African Great Lakes region. The country is not only a place of origin of labour migrants seeking employment and economic opportunities abroad, but also of transit and destination for refugees, asylum seekers, forcibly displaced and returnees.
As such it is confronted with various issues, including labour migration, irregular migration, trafficking in human beings and international protection.
Against this background, the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs realised the importance of better managing migration data and requested MIEUX+ support.
After an initial assessment of the DCIC personnel capacities in this area, a tailored course on Migration and Data Management will be developed and finalised on the basis of the participants’ feedback.
It will cover several topics, such as migration data and trends at the national level, the sources, tools, and good practices for data collection and analysis, as well as statistics.
In addition, the MIEUX+ team and experts will train participants to replicate the training session with their colleagues through the ‘Vocational Train the Trainers’ course.
As a result, DICIC officers will bolster their knowledge and skills in collecting and identifying migration data and will be able to redo the training to colleagues working in other departments.
