Description
Brazil has long been a country of destination for migrants from all over the world, traditionally keeping open border and migration policies. Overall, more than 800,000 registered migrants and several hundred thousand unregistered ones live in Brazil, which makes it the country with the largest foreign-born population in Latin America.

Last years' migratory flows from Venezuela drastically changed the way Brazilian institutions support migrants and refugees, as well as their allocation of human resources. Based on this context, the Brazilian Federal Public Defender’s Office (DPU) requested support from MIEUX+ in 2020 to contribute to a better protection and support to migrants and asylum seekers.

The aim of this Action was to strengthen the DPU’s capacities in providing legal support to migrants and asylum seekers, and offering the institution knowledge, training and materials needed to continue organising training sessions on the topic.
